Just a quick post on a dismal morning...
take a look at the "Spotted on the Web" feature...
near the bottom of the side bar.
You will find it interesting reading.
And yesterday, while moving some logs, I was told off by a Peacock...
it behaved in a way I'd never seen before...
it flashed upper and lower sets of "eyes" individually...
and then began to rotate the sets...
a very strange effect that...
and then flashed odd "eyes" in a random fashion...
before settling back down!

Last Wednesday was my birthday (65!) so we went out for lunch. We chose
L'Epicure in La Roche Posa...

Hmmm...It will be interesting to see what the French survey results reveal. They haven't finished number crunching yet. The British report isn't as positive as the headline would have you believe either. The NT has certainly been criticised for making inanely positive press releases about last year, and this article is careful to introduce many if, buts and maybes. Meadow Browns may have done well in the UK, but they were notable by their absence here last year. On the other hand, Large Blues had a very good year here (dunno about the UK).
Susan, I didn't have time to follow the link at the bottom of the report this morning....
All I can find there is 2012's data...
it looks like they are still number crunching, too.

"The Wider Countryside Butterfly Survey (WCBS) will be running in 2013 at a welcome higher resource level..."
The BBC article refers to the difference between 2012 & 2013...
Can I take it that you have the data from elsewhere?
Tim: no, sorry, I didn't read thoroughly enough and assumed they were talking about 2013.
Err...I'm just confused now. The article definitely gives the impression they are talking about 2013, but the latest report if you go through to the WCBS is 2012. I've no idea if there is a draft or preliminary report for 2013 floating about that the article is based on or whether the BBC is just giving the wrong impression about which year they are talking about.
Hey ho... gurgle...
perhaps all the rain in the UK has befuddled their brains!
Auntie Beeb's that is...
scientists don't get befuddled...
do they?
Our Peacocks over-wintering in the cellar have divided opinions over whether it's safe to come out and play yet.
One made its way out via the garage yesterday whilst the other is still sleeping soundly clinging to the cellar wall.
Do we have a wise butterfly still in residence I wonder??
