Snakes alive....

A quick picture post to announce that the Fritillaries are flowering....

One of the pale ones

Yes, the ditch has plenty of these... and more to come.

Super. Thanks for alerting me. I'd forgotten they could be out. I might be off to the Véron tomorrow, so might see some there.

Very beautiful, when we lived near Oxford we used to go to see the fritillary meadow at Magdalene College.

Philip... a famous drift!!
Nothing so large here... despite them being equally protected...
the French will happily pick wild flowers for church or home...
protected or not!
AND...
that includes environment agency botanists...
who will pick a flower...
at the same time telling you it is "very rare"....
and "protected by law"...
and then passing it around the group!!
Thus cleverly ensuring that that one will not set seed!!
Good example... NOT!

Love these pretty flowers. We had them in the UK garden, but only a couple here in France.

I did not realise these were native flowers. They survived in the garden for one year but I have not seen them this year. Amelia

Amelia, both native to Europe and protected in most countries including France and the UK... drainage of wetlands, ploughing up of watermeadow habitat and picking being the biggest problems they contend with...
over mowing of haymeadow is also a cause of loss... round here, they like to get four cuts per year... so these survive in the ditch... but only a couple visible in the field!!
