Starting to Twitter...

Everyone seems to twitter these days, so we thought we'd join in...
but only on this blog... and only about wildlife.

Twitter one:
We saw a Little Egret [Egretta garzetta] Aigrette garzette fly down the valley today....
now that might not seem much... they are quite common...
but not along here... it is the first we've seen...
but completes our set of egrets.

One of my brother's pictures... the yellow feet are very clear in this shot.

Twitter two:
A vast flock of waders grouped overhead last night...
three or four hundred... in bunches and 'W's...
too dark to see anything but silhouettes...
most probably Golden Plover looking for an open field...
and then settling to roost for the night.

Twitter three:
We now have a huge number of Great Tits [Parus major] Mésange charbonnière visiting...
we've put the feeders out again.

Do you think you have a 'beacon' on your property?

Gaynor... I don't think it is a 'beacon'.... I think the birds invented "Tweeting" long before twitter arrived. Or else someone has been "telling it to the trees"!

C&E... he does take a good picture... but he is a "Canon"ista and has glassware to match the camera... if you google Canon lenses, you will see what I mean if you look at the price of the f2.8 long lenses... some of them [not his] would have paid for a certain France 3 and left change!!

Our Christmas card from him arrived today... you can see the picture on it here on his flickr site! Taken January 2010.
It is quite useful having such a good source of images!

Thank you C & E. They come inland for the winter and spend the summer around Blakeney/Cley as far as I can tell.
